  3. On quite a few occasions, I was required to translate during lunch for the trainer and the trainees. The food was usually very good, but I never had time to eat it all (or anything close to that) because they kept talking. So, eventually, I just disregarded the etiquette and just went on eating while translating, or translating while eating. Not very nice, but healthy. Otherwise, I would've been left hungry and frustrated.
    Anyway, I enjoyed the joke.

I had a similar experience, but when I got to the table the people I was interpreting for were horrified that there was such an order and insisted that I join in - had some great food and wine and got invited to Malta to do some interpreting on the strength of it :) My colleagues weren't on such hospitable tables, though, and spent the whole evening looking thoroughly miserable ...
