Based on an idea by Martin Beagles. Martin is a Spanish>English translator, an associate professor in the Department of English at the Complutense University of Madrid and the Comillas University of Madrid and is one of the best English teachers I have ever had.
so true and so sad
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Spot on! :)
ReplyDeleteHeh, sadly there is no joke here.
ReplyDeleteVery true...
ReplyDeleteBut then again, maybe we only get noticed when we make mistakes /because/ our name is never included anywhere!
ReplyDeleteAhahah! Yes, that's why no feedback is usually good feedback!
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it.
DeleteTrue and depressing!
ReplyDelete:D yes... sadly...
ReplyDelete“Many critics, no defenders,
ReplyDeletetranslators have but two regrets:
when we hit, no one remembers,
when we miss, no one forgets.” (c)
Awesome (paraphrasing the teens among us.....). That's why, when a translation is spot on, nobody even notices it's a translation; and when it's bad, the immediate comment will be: "this is obviously a [bad/literal/mis-] translation. Who did it?".
DeleteThe name of the Chinese translator is always alongside the author's on the cover as well as the spine. Lucky us!
ReplyDeleteThis is too hilarious and this is always true, because lots of translators are doing that thing again and again.
ReplyDeleteAnother priceless Calvo quote. We've been thinking of a way to phrase that very thought, and Calvo has gone out and done it. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSo true...
ReplyDeleteDear Mox, would you mind if I use this cartoon in my blog (here's the link http://translatorspuzzles.blogspot.com/2013/02/invisible-translators.html)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Your cartoons are the best!
